Turn the AED on. It will talk you through every step.
Expose the chest. Wipe it dry. Remove medication patches; shave dense hair if pads will not stick.
Attach the pads exactly as the pictures show: one below the right collarbone, one on the left side below the armpit.
Plug in the connector if needed. When the AED says 'analysing', make sure nobody touches the person.
If a shock is advised, shout 'clear', check that no one is touching, then press the shock button.
Start compressions immediately after the shock (or if no shock is advised). Keep the pads on; the AED will re-analyse every 2 minutes.
- Use pediatric pads or a pediatric setting for children under 8 when available; if not, use adult pads without letting them touch.
- Never remove the pads while the AED is in use.
