Telemedicine and Virtual Care
You'll be able to run a structured virtual visit, decide what remote monitoring data means for a care plan, and know when a case needs to be escalated to in-person care.
What this track covers
This track covers the practical decisions of delivering care through a screen: what can and can't be assessed on video, how to structure a virtual exam and documentation, and how to interpret data streaming in from remote monitoring devices. It also addresses triage judgment calls unique to telemedicine, like recognizing when a virtual visit isn't enough.
What you will practice
- Structuring a telehealth visit when physical exam findings are limited
- Deciding when a virtual complaint requires an in-person referral
- Interpreting trends from home blood pressure, glucose, or pulse oximetry data
- Documenting a virtual encounter to reflect its limitations accurately
- Coordinating follow-up care across a remote monitoring program
Simulator scenario
A virtual visit with a patient reporting new symptoms on top of a chronic condition being followed via remote monitoring, requiring the clinician to weigh device data against the history and decide whether to manage remotely or escalate.
Board question topics
- Limitations of the virtual physical exam
- Red flags requiring escalation from telehealth to in-person care
- Interpreting remote monitoring device data trends
- Documentation standards for virtual encounters
