What this track covers
This track covers mental health care for older adults, including recognizing late-life depression and anxiety, distinguishing dementia-related behavioral and psychological symptoms from other causes, and managing psychiatric medications in patients with polypharmacy and age-related physiologic changes. It emphasizes practical decision-making for common geriatric psychiatry scenarios encountered across outpatient, inpatient, and long-term care settings.
What you will practice
- Differentiate depression, delirium, and dementia in an older adult with cognitive complaints
- Select and interpret cognitive screening tools appropriate to the clinical setting
- Work through a stepwise approach to behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia

Simulator scenario
A virtual patient case involving an older adult in a long-term care setting with new-onset agitation and confusion, requiring the clinician to work through the differential and management approach step by step.
