What this track covers
This track covers the full arc of procedural sedation: pre-sedation patient assessment and risk stratification, agent selection and titration strategy, continuous monitoring and depth-of-sedation assessment, and recognition and management of sedation-related complications. It is intended for clinicians who perform or supervise moderate sedation outside the operating room.
What you will practice
- Apply ASA physical status classification to determine sedation candidacy
- Select and sequence sedative and analgesic agents based on procedure and patient factors
- Interpret continuous monitoring data to track sedation depth in real time
- Recognize early signs of respiratory depression or airway compromise
- Decide when to use reversal agents versus airway rescue maneuvers
Simulator scenario
A timed case where a patient becomes progressively hypoxic and hypotensive during a routine sedation, requiring the clinician to recognize the complication and choose the correct escalation pathway.
