What this track covers
This track covers the full arc of osteoporosis care in primary care: identifying who needs screening, interpreting DEXA and FRAX results, ruling out secondary causes, and selecting among bisphosphonates and anabolic agents. It also addresses long-term monitoring, drug holiday decisions, and fall prevention.
What you will practice
- Interpret T-scores, Z-scores, and BMD trends, including recognizing technical artifacts
- Apply FRAX scoring to determine treatment thresholds
- Work up secondary causes of bone loss with appropriate labs and imaging
- Choose between oral/IV bisphosphonates and anabolic agents based on patient risk profile
- Plan drug holidays and long-term monitoring intervals
Simulator scenario
A postmenopausal patient presents after a low-trauma wrist fracture with a borderline DEXA T-score, requiring the clinician to calculate FRAX, decide on further workup, and select an initial treatment.
