What this track covers
This track covers the core skills of primary care for older adults: comprehensive geriatric assessment, polypharmacy and deprescribing, cognitive and mood evaluation, falls risk, common geriatric syndromes, and goals-of-care conversations. It's built for clinicians managing complex, multimorbid patients where standard single-disease protocols often don't apply.
What you will practice
- Work through a structured functional, cognitive, and social assessment for a new older adult patient
- Apply Beers Criteria to identify and prioritize deprescribing candidates in a multi-drug regimen
- Differentiate dementia, mild cognitive impairment, and delirium presentations
- Assess fall risk using gait, balance, and multifactorial screening approaches
- Structure a goals-of-care conversation that incorporates patient values and prognosis
Simulator scenario
An 82-year-old on multiple long-standing medications presents with new falls and subtle cognitive changes, requiring the clinician to sort out polypharmacy, cognitive workup, and safety planning within the visit.
