What this track covers
This track covers the core skills of early pregnancy ultrasound: establishing gestational age, confirming an intrauterine pregnancy with normal early development, and recognizing findings that raise concern for ectopic pregnancy or early pregnancy loss. It also touches on multiple gestations and basic adnexal evaluation in the first trimester.
What you will practice
- Estimate gestational age from crown-rump length and mean sac diameter
- Distinguish normal early intrauterine findings from signs of pregnancy loss
- Recognize ultrasound patterns associated with ectopic pregnancy or pregnancy of unknown location
- Differentiate chorionicity and amnionicity in twin pregnancies
- Identify corpus luteum, cysts, and other adnexal findings in early pregnancy
Simulator scenario
A patient presents with first trimester vaginal bleeding and pelvic pain, and the clinician must work through the ultrasound findings to distinguish a viable intrauterine pregnancy from an ectopic pregnancy or early pregnancy loss.
