What this track covers
This track covers the clinical evaluation of peripheral nerve and muscle disease, from motor and sensory exam findings to the major diagnostic categories: peripheral neuropathies, myopathies, neuromuscular junction disorders, and motor neuron disease. It also covers reading electrodiagnostic patterns to support localization and differential diagnosis.
What you will practice
- Localize weakness using motor, sensory, and reflex exam findings
- Differentiate axonal versus demyelinating neuropathy patterns
- Distinguish inflammatory, metabolic, and inherited myopathies by clinical clues
- Recognize myasthenia gravis versus Lambert-Eaton on history and exam
- Interpret nerve conduction study and needle EMG patterns for common referrals
Simulator scenario
A simulated patient presents with several weeks of progressive proximal leg weakness and fatigability, requiring a focused history, exam, and reasoning through the neuropathy-myopathy-NMJ differential.
