What this track covers
This track covers seizure classification and localization, common epilepsy syndromes, basic EEG interpretation, and mechanism-based AED selection with attention to drug interactions and special populations. It also addresses refractory epilepsy, including polytherapy reasoning and when to consider surgical or neuromodulation referral.
What you will practice
- Classify a seizure as focal or generalized using semiology clues
- Match an AED to a seizure type based on mechanism of action
- Recognize EEG patterns that support an epilepsy syndrome diagnosis
- Work through AED choice and titration in a patient with comorbidities
- Identify red flags that warrant referral for surgical evaluation
