Alzheimer's and Dementia Care
You'll be able to differentiate dementia subtypes, interpret biomarker and imaging results, and build an evidence-aligned management plan for cognitively impaired patients.
What this track covers
This track covers the diagnostic workup and ongoing management of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, from bedside cognitive screening through biomarker interpretation and treatment selection. It addresses both disease-modifying and symptomatic therapies, along with the practical decisions clinicians face around monitoring, safety, and caregiver communication.
What you will practice
- Choose and administer an appropriate cognitive screening tool for a given patient presentation
- Distinguish Alzheimer's, vascular, Lewy body, frontotemporal, and mixed dementia based on clinical features
- Interpret CSF, amyloid PET, tau PET, and blood-based biomarker results in context
- Apply monitoring protocols and recognize ARIA on imaging when managing anti-amyloid therapy
- Select and adjust cholinesterase inhibitors or memantine while managing behavioral symptoms
Simulator scenario
A patient presenting with progressive memory loss and fluctuating attention, requiring the clinician to work through history-taking, cognitive screening, and a differential between Alzheimer's and Lewy body dementia.
Board question topics
- Cognitive screening tool selection and interpretation
- Dementia subtype differentiation
- Biomarker and neuroimaging interpretation
- Anti-amyloid therapy monitoring and safety
