Lab Result Interpretation Study Track

You'll be able to systematically interpret CBC, metabolic panels, liver function tests, thyroid studies, and cardiac markers and connect the pattern to a clinical picture.

What this track covers

This track covers structured interpretation of the lab panels clinicians order most often: CBC with differential, BMP/CMP, liver enzymes and bilirubin patterns, thyroid function tests, and cardiac biomarkers. It emphasizes recognizing patterns, distinguishing common differentials, and correlating results with history, exam, and imaging rather than reading values in isolation.

What you will practice

  • Differentiate hepatocellular versus cholestatic injury patterns from AST, ALT, ALP, and bilirubin trends
  • Work through a WBC differential to narrow a differential diagnosis
  • Interpret electrolyte and renal function trends on a BMP/CMP
  • Distinguish primary versus secondary thyroid dysfunction using TSH with T3/T4 patterns
  • Correlate troponin and BNP trends with a clinical presentation of chest pain or dyspnea

Simulator scenario

A simulator case presenting a patient with fatigue and abnormal thyroid and metabolic panel results, requiring the clinician to sequence further workup and correlate findings with the history.

Board question topics

  • Interpreting CBC indices and differential patterns
  • Hepatocellular versus cholestatic injury patterns
  • Distinguishing primary from secondary thyroid disorders
  • Cardiac biomarker trends in acute presentations
