What this track covers
This track covers the core hematology skills clinicians use daily: reading CBC indices and patterns, working up microcytic, macrocytic, and hemolytic anemias, interpreting PT/INR and PTT, and managing anticoagulation and thrombocytopenia. It also covers when transfusion is indicated and how to think through platelet and bleeding disorder workups.
What you will practice
- Interpret CBC indices and flag patterns that need further workup
- Differentiate iron deficiency, B12/folate deficiency, anemia of chronic disease, and hemolytic anemia
- Reason through an elevated PT/INR or PTT and narrow the differential
- Weigh anticoagulation choices, monitoring needs, and reversal considerations
- Decide when thrombocytopenia or a bleeding pattern warrants transfusion or further testing
Simulator scenario
A patient presents with fatigue and a low hemoglobin on routine labs, and the clinician must work through the CBC pattern, order the right follow-up tests, and reach a working diagnosis within the visit.
