What this track covers
This track covers acid-related and functional GI disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, liver disease, GI bleeding, and celiac/malabsorptive conditions. It focuses on recognizing patterns in labs and presentations, choosing the right next diagnostic or referral step, and structuring a management plan a clinician can defend on rounds or in clinic.
What you will practice
- Distinguish GERD from alarm features that warrant endoscopy referral
- Differentiate Crohn's disease from ulcerative colitis based on distribution and presentation
- Interpret LFT patterns to localize hepatocellular versus cholestatic injury
- Risk-stratify a GI bleed and sequence resuscitation versus endoscopy timing
- Work through a stepwise approach to suspected celiac disease and malabsorption
Simulator scenario
A patient presents with melena and lightheadedness, requiring the clinician to triage severity, initiate resuscitation, and decide on timing for endoscopy.
