What this track covers
This track covers the endocrine problems clinicians see most often in adult primary and internal medicine: thyroid dysfunction and nodules, adrenal insufficiency and Cushing syndrome, calcium and parathyroid disorders, osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease, and pituitary dysfunction. It also covers recognizing and stabilizing endocrine emergencies such as thyroid storm, myxedema coma, and adrenal crisis.
What you will practice
- Interpret TSH, free T4, and antibody patterns to classify thyroid dysfunction
- Work up an incidental thyroid nodule and decide when imaging or biopsy is warranted
- Distinguish causes of hypercalcemia and sequence the appropriate workup
- Read a DEXA report and apply FRAX to guide osteoporosis treatment decisions
- Recognize early signs of adrenal crisis and thyroid storm and initiate stabilization
Simulator scenario
A patient presents with tachycardia, fever, and altered mental status, and the clinician must recognize thyroid storm and manage it in real time.
