Anaphylaxis Recognition and Emergency Management
You'll be able to recognize anaphylaxis quickly, sequence epinephrine and airway interventions without delay, and manage monitoring and disposition afterward.
What this track covers
This track covers the clinical criteria for identifying anaphylaxis, the sequence of emergency interventions from epinephrine administration through airway support and adjunctive therapies, and the follow-up decisions needed for biphasic reactions and safe discharge. It's built for clinicians who need to act decisively during a time-sensitive presentation and explain their reasoning clearly to the care team.
What you will practice
- Applying clinical criteria to distinguish anaphylaxis from other acute reactions
- Sequencing epinephrine administration with airway and circulatory support
- Deciding when to repeat epinephrine or escalate to advanced airway management
- Selecting adjunctive therapies such as antihistamines, corticosteroids, and bronchodilators
- Determining observation length and discharge readiness after a reaction resolves
Simulator scenario
A timed case presenting a patient with rapid-onset hives, throat tightness, and hypotension after a new medication, requiring the clinician to recognize anaphylaxis and sequence emergency treatment under time pressure.
Board question topics
- Diagnostic criteria for anaphylaxis
- Epinephrine administration and repeat dosing decisions
- Airway management in angioedema
- Biphasic reaction observation and discharge criteria
