What this track covers
This track covers dermoscopic evaluation of pigmented and non-pigmented skin lesions, from device setup and lighting to structured pattern analysis. It emphasizes the two-step algorithm, pattern and color analysis, and correlation between dermoscopic findings and underlying histopathology to support more consistent lesion triage decisions.
What you will practice
- Apply the two-step dermoscopic algorithm to classify a lesion as melanocytic or non-melanocytic
- Identify asymmetry, border, color, and structural features consistent with the ABCD approach
- Differentiate reticular, globular, and starburst patterns in pigmented lesions
- Recognize dermoscopic clues suggestive of BCC versus SCC versus benign keratinocytic lesions
- Correlate dermoscopic structures with expected histopathologic findings
Simulator scenario
A patient presents with a new, asymmetric pigmented lesion on the back, and the clinician must apply dermoscopic pattern analysis under time pressure to decide between reassurance, monitoring, or biopsy referral.
